Ming City Wall is one of the attractions of Xi'an. From here, the city walls, offers an extraordinary view of the city, you can see the bell tower and Drum Tower. It captures the spirit of the impressive panorama.

A similar wall existed in Beijing, but it was destroyed during the construction of the metro. Therefore, the city wall in Xi'an - the only one Chinese city walls that have survived to the present day.

Originally, the wall was built, as well as all the city walls to protect the city from attack. The wall height of 12 meters, width of about 15 meters at the base, and the length of almost 12 kilometers. Originally, the wall was built with the use of the land, which is tightly rammed during installation. Then, lined with brick construction.

On each side of the wall were created gates for entry into the city on the north side Anyuan, Johnny on the south, the west and an'din Changle on the east side of the city. All gates are equipped with a bridge to the lifting mechanism, a deep ditch and a stone bag. In the corners of the walls were made watchtowers, each of which has a small military garrison. The towers served as observation posts.

The wall also created special passageways for horses. The steps were performed in such a manner that the horse can walk on them safely. In total there were 11 such passages.

Today, the wall remained there just as a local landmark. During the restoration in 1983 there was created a park for nice walks and rebuilt the tower at the gate. In addition, the territory of the City Wall Marathon is held, where participants must overcome three full circle along the wall.
