His founding of the city of Sendai is obliged military feudal daimyo, Date Masamune to the prince, who in the early XVII century, laid in its place the first building.

Samurai Date Masamune lived and ruled at the end of the era of the Azuchi-Momoyama and early Edo period (years of life since 1567 to 1636). In addition to the base of Sendai, he was known as a politician, artist and scientist, as well as a patron of Christianity. In 1613 Date Masamune even organized and sent a mission to the Vatican to establish diplomatic and trade relations with European countries. The feudal lord was often called the "one-eyed dragon" - due to the fact that he was ill with smallpox, he lost his right eye.

Dzuyhoden was built after the death of the following year Date Masamune - in 1637-m. Subsequently, a number of tombs were built for other members of the Date clan. Some of them, including Dzuyhoden were destroyed during the bombing in 1945, and were then rebuilt in the second half of the XX century. At the beginning of this century, two objects of this complex survived repeated reconstruction: 2001 - Dzuyhoden in 2007 - Dzennoden built for the Date Tsunamune, third possession daimyo of Sendai. During the restoration works we have tried to stick to the original style of Momoyama period, which were built mausoleums.
