Karl-Marx-Hof - the most famous Municipal house in Vienna, located in the 19th district of the city. Karl-Marx-Hof is the longest apartment house in the world.

In 1927, by special order of the Social Democratic Party of Austria, the architect Karl Ain, is a follower of Otto Wagner, began to build the house. The ruling party wanted to fight poverty in the city, was a tax on luxuries (cars, domestics, home ownership). It was on the money and was built 64 thousand apartments for those in need, including the Karl-Marx-Hof. The building was completed three years later, its construction took 25 million bricks. The length of the house is 1100 meters, it has 98 entrances, which stretches between 4 tram stops. Small apartment footage (30-60 square meters) with a total number of 1382 pieces, which are home to about 5,000 people. Shared facilities include laundry, baths, kindergartens, libraries and doctors' offices.

Karl-Marx-Hof was involved in the February 1934 in the February uprising. The rebels had barricaded themselves inside the building and were forced to surrender after the Austrian army and police began bombing the building, without taking into account the unarmed residents and families of ordinary workers. As a result, the house has been taken by government troops on the second day of fighting. Karl-Marx-Hof was badly damaged, it was repaired in 1950.

House has repeatedly been used as a filming location in several films, including "Night porter."

In the period from 1924 po1930 yy in the Austrian capital was built many social houses that formed the entire municipal neighborhoods. In particular, there is a house with a very similar name - Karl-Mark-Hof, which got its name in honor of Dr. Karl Brand.
