Albertina - one of the most important museums in the world, located in the center of Vienna. The palace takes its name from the founder of the collection of the Duke Albert of Saxe-Teschen (1738-1822). Here is one of the largest and most important collections in the world of graphics (about 65,000 paintings), and approximately 1 million old prints as well as more modern graphic works, photographs and architectural drawings. In addition to the collection of charts, the museum has recently acquired two unique collection of Impressionist early 20th century, some of which will be on permanent display. The museum also often hosts temporary exhibitions.
The collection, which began to develop in 1776, Duke Albert von Sachsen-Teschen includes such famous works as "Hare" by Durer and "praying hands", works by Rubens, Klimt, Picasso, Schiele and Cezanne.
The permanent exhibition of the Albertina are the most interesting works of art over the last 130 years: from French impressionism to German expressionism, Russian avant-garde and modern. Monet's "pond with water lilies," Degas "Dancers" and "Portrait of a Girl" by Renoir, Chagall, Malevich - such masterpieces presented before the eyes of visitors.
In 2008, permanent storage was transferred to the Albertina collection Batliner, consisting of works by Malevich, Goncharova, Picasso and many other famous artists.
In addition to the rich collection of graphics, the Albertina houses a collection of photos, as well as a collection of architectural drawings and sketches in. Architectural Collection comprises about 50,000 plans and layouts, obtained mainly from the drawing department of the Imperial Court, from the collection of the works of Baron Philip von Shtoha.
To date, the Albertina is one of the most visited museums in Austria.
