Museum of Danube Swabians in an area of ​​1,500 square meters was created for five years and was inaugurated in 2000. Ulm, standing on the bank of the Danube at its very source, in the early 18th century was the center of the German-speaking population migration - Danube Swabians - the river in South-Eastern Europe. Attracted vacant as a result of hostilities lands German merchants, peasants, workers massively moved to the territory of Hungary, Romania and Yugoslavia.

Over the 300 years since the beginning of the mass migration of the history of the Danube Swabians knew periods of prosperity and attempted destruction, relocations and repression. 27 expositions of the museum are devoted to domestic political situation and the Swabians in different countries and periods. A small museum staff did a great job in search of historical documents and artifacts that characterize the life of the German community once a million and virtually destroyed as a result of repression after World War II. Coexisting with different people, they took over the life and customs of the local population, providing in turn an undeniable impact on the development and industrialization of these lands.

The centerpiece of the museum occupies a kind of symbol of the Danube Swabians - Ulm boat, a house on the water in which they began their journey to a new life.

Museum of Danube Swabians in Ulm has become not only a place to store and study the history of this nation, but also a venue for various ethnic festival, scientific conferences and exhibitions.
