Ehrwald - a small Austrian resort town, located in the federal state of Tyrol. Included in the district Reutte. The city is situated at an altitude of 2950 meters above sea level. Not far from the German side is the famous Bavarian winter resort of Garmisch-Partenkirchen.
Ehrwald was first mentioned in documents from 1274. The village was not like the rest of the settlements of the district. Not a very convenient location away from the main route is the cause of the difficult economic situation of Ehrwald. The city existed thanks to the production of timber, which has become a major source of income for local residents. However, in the early 20th century Ehrwald was discovered by tourists and has become a well-known ski resort in the region of the Zugspitze.
In 1926, the cable car was opened, after the appearance of which the flow of tourists has increased dramatically. The city began to open hotels and restaurants, as well as all the accompanying tourist infrastructure. In summer, tourists visit the Nature Reserve of Ehrwald, as well as a picturesque lake nearby.
