The only museum in Ukraine, which is a distinctive school of Volyn iconography, is the Museum of Volyn Icon. The museum is located in the town of Lutsk, the street Jarostchuk, 5. The museum was opened in August 1993.

The creation of this collection is connected with the name of the famous Ukrainian art critic P. ZHOLTOVSKOGO. He led scientific expeditions Volyn regional museum of 80th years of XX century in the collection and study of historical and cultural monuments in temples Volyn region.

Lutsk Volyn Icon Museum contains a unique collection of monuments of sacred art - icons, decorative carvings, sculptures, crosses, crucifixes and other religious objects. The museum has more than a thousand exhibits, which were created in the XI - XX centuries, among them about 600 icons.

School Volyn iconography distinguished by their originality. Painters Volyn possessed the ability to combine a variety of styles, and also had a creative manner to embody religious ideas in pictorial images. Their icon thanks to its unique power became known not only in Ukraine but also abroad.

The jewel of the Museum of Volyn Icon, attracts pilgrims from around the world, it is the miraculous icon of Our Lady of Kholmsk. This is one of the oldest icons. Probably, the icon was painted in XI-XII centuries in Byzantium.

Museum of Volyn Icon stores and many other legendary images, which reflect the history of one of the best icon painting schools. Among them: "Christ in Glory", "The Crucifixion» (XVI century). "Yuri Zmeeborets with Life" (1630), "Rise of the Holy Spirit" (beginning. XVII cent.), "The Nativity of the Virgin" and "The Ascension of the Prophet Elijah" (trans. floor. XVII cent.), "Rise to hell" (mid. XVII cent.), "St. Varvara with Life "(con. XVII v), and others.
