Temple Harmandir Sahib, still known as Darbar Sahib, located in Armitsar in the Indian state Punjab. But more often it is called the "Golden Temple" due to the fact that almost all of its outer surface to the top of the dome, except for the lower tier is covered with gold leaf. This Sikh Gurdwara, in other words - a place of worship, was set up the fifth Sikh Guru - Guru Arjan Dev in the XVI century around. And when in 1604 were completed the scriptures of the religion called Adi Granth, they had deposited it in the temple Harmandir Sahib.

Its present form it has acquired after the restructuring, which was made in 1764 on the initiative of prominent spiritual leader of Sikhs Sultan Jassim al Kwame Nawab Singh Ahluwalia. In addition, in the XIX century, another leader of the Sikh ruler Maharaja Ranjit Singh ordered to cover the upper floor of the temple with gold, for which, as mentioned above, the Harmandir Sahib, and received another named "Golden Temple". Officially called "Harmandir Sahib" is literally translated as "The Temple of God."

In general, Harmandir Sahib is a real complex, located around a small lake Sarovar, the center of which stands the building of the temple. The water in this lake is considered to be curative, people believe that it is a mixture of holy water and the elixir of immortality.

The Golden Temple is accessed via one of the four available there doors - one on each side, symbolizing the opening of the Temple of the Sikhs for all people, regardless of their nationality and religion. It is through this Darbar Sahib visited daily by about one hundred thousand people.
