And in the heart of Karelia it is the largest in Russia and mud spa resort Marcial Waters. This is an amazing place in the Republic of Karelia is located near Petrozavodsk.

History of the resort dates back to 1714 when the Molotov worker Ivan Rebo discovered the healing power .  For many years, he complained of ill health and heart pain, but after three days, he drank water from the spring, his health improved and the pain began to leave .  Ryaboev reported healing source control factory where he worked, and it was a harbinger of the emergence of the first resort in Russia .  Later Ivan Ryaboev in 1720 was released from taxes and forced labor, and Genin awarded for mine healing waters .  In December of 1717 to study the healing waters off Lawrence Lavrent'evich Blumentrost, who later became president of the Russian Academy of Sciences .  Blumentrost conducted a study of the chemical composition of the source Konchezero .  Studies in patients at the beginning of 1718, conducted by a doctor Anthony Ravelin (Ravinel), who worked in the capital, a military hospital .  His group mainly consisted of patients in Olonets battalion soldiers, the results were found to be positive .

In February 1718 for treatment in Marcial Waters plans to go himself Peter I. In connection with his arrival Genin begins to build a wooden palace not far from the source. The building was built in U-shape in front of the facade of the source to the patients when receiving no water came out of the room. The palace and the tent of the source are connected by a covered gallery.

Peter I came to treatment after a year after the scheduled time - at the beginning of 1719. King stayed at the resort from January 28 to 16 February, he was almost always accompanied by Catherine Alexeyevna. Encouraged by the first trip to the Marcial Waters Peter issued a document on special rules of treatment: "The announcement of lechitelnyh waters to find Olonets, and from any diseases and how to arrive at that hand, that dohturskoe definition. Also, a decree of His Imperial Majesty to discharge the same dohturskie rules. " This document was published March 20, 1719 and was the first decree of the King of Olonets mineral waters. It is therefore considered that the March 20, 1719 - It's the birthday of the resort Marcial Waters. Peter I visited the resort four times - in 1719, 1720, 1722 and most recently in 1724. In total, Peter the Great stayed in Marcial waters for more than 90 days.

In 1721, the Marcial waters was built church of St. Peter, this architectural monument preserved to our days. The church was built in the domed, cruciform plan of pine timber. The main decoration of the church is the two-tier iconostasis was made out to order, consisting of a festive and local series. Most of the icons in the church iconography reflects Western European tradition.

Marcial Waters Resort is located in the valley of Lake Gabozero, and it is famous for its natural wealth and endows people curative mud and mineral waters. The special microclimate in the valley created by the proximity to the curative ferruginous sulphate, bicarbonate sources and saprolevym silt sulfide mud.
