Impressive castle Heynfels - this is one of the main cultural attractions of the ski area located in the eastern part of the valley Alta Pusteria, located mainly in Italy. The impressive ruins of the castle, located on Pantsendorfom near the town of Sillian, not only rise above the valley of Val Pusteria, but lying in front of the Val Kartits. Here you can climb on a small road and several hiking trails.

Heynfels Castle was built for several centuries, and the oldest part date back to the 13th century. The central part of the medieval defensive structure consists of a 20-meter tower and the adjacent premises. The west wing of the castle is the largest and most well preserved. That it is a room with a stucco decoration, dating from the 18th century - the so-called Rittersaal.

In the 13th century castle owned by the lords Heynfels Highlanders, who founded here a military base. After 1500, the year he died the last representative of a noble family, the castle became the property of the Emperor Maximilian I, who was forced to give it to the Bishop of Bressanone. And soon after that the castle changed owners again - this time they became lords of Wolkenstein-Trostburg. In 1613, the year most of the structure was destroyed by a terrible fire. Subsequently Trostburgi sold the castle to the state, and that, in turn, transferred it to the jurisdiction of the municipality Heynfels. In 1977 the castle became private property.

Up to now the once imposing castle Heynfels came round and square turrets, impressive donjon, the courtyard and the 38 embrasures. Also well preserved so-called guard post, which did not allow the enemy to climb walls.
