One of the most notable attractions of Trier - the 40-meter statue of the Virgin Mary. Situated on a high hill on the left bank of the Moselle, it looks at the city from a height of three hundred meters. Today, the statue is rightly considered the tallest building in the city.
The statue was built not so long ago, only in the 19th century, but its appearance was at a particularly motivated: for example, experts believe that one of the reasons may be considered the differences between Catholics and Protestants. Without going into details, it is worth noting that the statue has become one of those sites, which tend to represent Trier in advertising and tourist brochures, or more simply - one of the visiting cards of the city.
APPLIES TO Gothic Revival: its characteristic features visible to the naked eye and are expressed primarily in the very image of Mary. Architect Christian Wilhelm Schmidt, who put his talented hand in the creation of the project, suggested the use of sand and Roman bricks, making an architectural monument is both interesting from the point of view of construction. Construction began in 1859 and fully completed in 1866. It is also interesting that the construction and further maintenance of the statue of the Virgin Mary in the abolition of the state is carried out entirely by voluntary donations.
The statue of the Virgin Mary - the highest observation deck, which promises a magnificent view of the city and an unforgettable experience for those who dare to climb to the top.
