Jerusalem Tower Trier - the oldest building of the complex, which is called Walderdorff Palace. It is known that the building was built back in the 11th century, moreover, the shape and size of the towers were characteristic of urban development at the time. There is mention of the fact that all such towers in Trier was nine, but now Jerusalem Tower is perhaps the most well-preserved example of the architecture of the time. By the way, it is unclear why the building was named so, no relation to the Jewish religion, the building did not have.
Thick walls indicate that at the time the tower was part of the city fortifications. There are also reports that the masonry builders used that mimic some Roman buildings. So, a special way of laying large bricks contributed particularly resistant building. The original building had no less than five storeys standing on a solid stone foundation. Over time, the walls were imposed new layers of plaster, but not so long ago were carried out restoration work and found authentic features: arches, turning into walls that are decorated in a special way, allow us to speak about the use of the building as a chapel.
In 1869, a fire raged in Trier, suffered from it, and the Jerusalem Tower. The first floor was filled and forgotten for centuries. In the last century have been excavated, which allowed to find evidence of the medieval tradition, in fact detected and a spiral staircase and massive pillars supporting the upper floors, and windows with deep niches.
Today Jerusalem Tower - a three-storey building, which perfectly fits into a modern building. The hotel tower location is one of the points of the city tour.
