Karistos - a small port town on the southern coast of the Greek island of Evia. It is located about 129 km south of the administrative center of the island city of Halkis, not far from the place where in ancient times was located antique influential policy Karistas.

The picturesque town is situated on the banks of the cozy nature of the bay, surrounded by majestic mountains. Modern Karystos, as we see it today, quite a young city, built by decree of King Otto, plan to move the capital here in Greece, but in the middle of the 19th century by the famous Bavarian civil engineer Bierbaha. Today Karistos - a very popular resort with a well-developed tourist infrastructure. Local taverns and restaurants are famous for excellent cuisine and a large selection of dishes with the freshest seafood.

Attractions Karystos and the surrounding area is worth noting renovated Venetian castle Bourtzi, dating from the 13th century, the ruins of the Venetian fortress of Castel Rosso (1030), town hall (late 19th century) and the Cultural Center Yokaleion, which shows a small collection of sculptures ceramics and Hellenistic and Roman eras. Of particular interest are also orthodox monasteries Taksiaris, St. George and St. Maurus, the Cape of Cavo d'Oro, Mount Ochi, on the picturesque slopes which have survived the ancient megalithic structures, the ancient marble quarries near the village of Mila.

Fans of active pastime here can enjoy diving, surfing, fishing, water skiing or mountain biking, as well as a fascinating walk through the incredibly beautiful surroundings. It is very popular in Karistos and entertainment such as horseback riding.
