Church of St. Michael the Archangel in Gniezno was built in 1524 on the site of the burnt wooden church Ian and Elzbieta Shemetovichami. In 2012, he noted the 488 th anniversary of the temple. Not spared the church and the Reformation. With 1555 on 1643 the church was Calvinist cathedral. In 1643 he returned to the bosom of the Catholic Church.
The church was built with a large margin of safety. Its thick walls could withstand a siege of enemies. The temple was used as a fortification in all wars, as evidenced by entrenched in masonry cannonball.

In 1838, in the church there was a fire. Everything that could burn - burned. In 1844, its recovery has donated a considerable sum G. Tarasevich. In 1926, the temple was reconstructed and layered tower. In 1930-1932 years of restoration work carried out by the architect T. Plyutsinskogo.

In the Soviet Union it created a special committee tasked with studying the history of the church and its restoration. In the late 1980s, the church was abandoned. In 1989 the temple was returned to believers, however, during the period when it was empty, the church had noticeably dilapidated. During his recovery he took a Catholic priest Ludwik, who took the temple on behalf of the Catholic Church. During this time, much work has been done on the restoration and promotion of the temple as a tourist attraction.

On the territory of the church preserved the ancient fence, Gate, a chapel and a cemetery. The church has sculptures that date back to the XVII-XVIII century.
