Toy Museum in the city of Tartu is one of the most interesting and favorite places to visit children and adults. Pleasant atmosphere and rich museum exposition of toys in return adult carefree days of childhood and children offer a great number of exhibitions and fun activities.

At the beginning of the XIX century in the building of the museum was located Tartu County school where children learn mostly artisans. In 1829, the space passed into private hands, and therefore, there was organized a large-scale reconstruction of the building. The facade of the house was designed in classic style. Inside, too, there have been changes: windows were greatly expanded, and the rooms are separated by partitions. The rooms are installed oven, tiled blue and white. The walls of the hall were covered with artificial marble.

At the end of XIX - early XX centuries, the building was divided into several small rooms, and in the yard - on the contrary, were built additional buildings, which were later destroyed. Throughout the XX century building was a house in which there was no permanent owner. Recently we moved out from there in the early 1990s. In 1994, the city authorities decided to place here Tartu Toy Museum. In 2002-2003, the room was completely renovated and, importantly, re-established its original appearance, typical of the XIX century.

Tartu Toy Museum opened in May 1994. In 2004 the museum was located in the old town of Tartu, on the street Lutsu-8. Museum complex consists of four buildings XVIII-XIX centuries, of which Lutsu-2 and Lutsu-8 (built in the early 1770s) is one of the oldest surviving wooden buildings in Tartu. The architecture of the house, which houses the museum, includes elements of two styles: the baroque and classic.

Collection of the Museum of toys is quite extensive. It consists of more than 6,000 toys and dolls. Toys are presented in a traditional Estonian folk style. In the museum you can see a lot of home-made dolls of rags, tops, wooden horses, ducks cane and other very old toys were played Estonian children decades ago.
