One of the most beautiful churches of the city of Sumy is the Trinity Cathedral, located on Trinity Street, 24-a. Bookmark the temple took place in May 1901 by the German architect G. Scholz hired "sugar Emperor" P. Kharitonenko. The project of the church fence and the mosaic floor was made by the famous architect A. Shchusev. Construction of the church lasted intermittently until 1915 consecration of the cathedral was originally scheduled for September 26, 1914 g, but due to the death of P. Kharitonenko, which financed the construction of the shrine, it was delayed for many years.
Hard times endured Holy Trinity Cathedral during the First World War, and then the Civil War. In Soviet times the church was used as a house organ music. Tools made in the Czech Republic for the first time sounded the walls of Sumy cathedral in November 1986 and only in 1996 the temple was returned to believers. The organ is now located in the building of the Sumy Regional Philharmonic.
Today, Trinity Cathedral is not the best view. But despite this, it is now apparent and a luxury that the city could not afford almost 200 years ago. Single storey and a square in terms of Trinity Cathedral was made in a style that combines elements of classicism and baroque, the type of the famous monuments of the capital's architecture - the Trinity-Izmailovsky and St. Isaac's Cathedral in St. Petersburg. Three of the facade of the temple is decorated with a portico with Corinthian columns. The western facade is decorated with the adjacent high chetyrёhyarusnaya belfry. Marble iconostasis of the Trinity Cathedral, was not preserved. Stained Glass "Trinity" in the interior of the church was completed with the participation of K. Petrov-Vodkin. Twelve of the bells were cast in Moscow factory brothers Samghins.
An architectural monument of neoclassicism of the early 20th st. - Sumy Trinity Cathedral belongs to the Ukrainian Orthodox Church of the Moscow Patriarchate.
