On the southeast coast of the island of Santorini is a small resort town of Kamari. It is only 8-10 kilometers from the island's capital of Fira. Kamari, how you can see it today, was rebuilt after the earthquake of 1956, which almost completely destroyed the city. The official name of Kamari - "Episkopi Gonia" - this resort was located here in honor of the ancient church of Panagia Episkopi. The construction of the temple dates back to the ancient 1100 year. The name of the "Kamari" comes from a small arch, which still stands at the southern end of the beach and is considered to be the remains of an ancient sanctuary of Poseidon.

Kamari is one of the most popular resorts in Santorini. Its main feature is a stunning beach covered with black volcanic sand and shingle beach, 5 km long. The beach is equipped with plenty of sun loungers and parasols.

At the edge of Kamari Beach is the mountain of Mesa Vouno, the height of which is about 400 meters above sea level (it is the second highest peak of Santorini). This mountain is of great historical importance, as in ancient times was located here ancient city of Tyre (9th century BC - 8th century AD) - the most important strategic point of the island. Today, the archaeological site of the ancient city open to the public.

In Kamari well developed tourist infrastructure. Here you will find a wonderful selection of comfortable hotels and apartments. Also on the promenade of Kamari many restaurants, bars, clubs and taverns where you can have a good time and enjoy the excellent Mediterranean and traditional Greek cuisine. The proximity of the capital will allow the travelers to visit in Kamari and Fira attractions.
