Lighthouse on the island Batagov - a historical landmark, located at the coast of the city Laoang in the province of North Samar. Lighthouse marks the north-eastern tip of the island of Samar, and serves as an invaluable guiding light for the ships coming from the Pacific Ocean through the Strait of San Bernardino - one of the busiest sea routes of the country - in Manila and other Philippine ports. This lighthouse is one of the three major beacons, fully designed and built by the Americans at the beginning of American dominance in the Philippines. The other two - the lighthouse on the island of Maniguin and lighthouse at Cape Bolinao. Batagsky lighthouse - a complete copy of the lighthouse at Cape Bolinao: both have a height of 30 and 8 meters and are equipped with the same light devices. In 2008, the lighthouse and the lighthouse island Batagov Capula Islands were declared a national heritage of the province of Northern Samar.
Construction of the lighthouse began in 1906 - was first built temporary pier to deliver the materials here. As mentioned above, the American engineers have taken a sample of the lighthouse at Cape Bolinao, built a year earlier. The design had a cylindrical shape made of reinforced concrete, built next to a small house for the caretaker. The design is characterized by simplicity - only curtain, door, window and balcony railings in the light chamber brightened monotone architecture. The height of the lighthouse, situated on a hill Kulipapa was 30 meters from the base to the focal plane. Since these areas are frequent typhoons Americans beacon designed so as to withstand wind gusts of up to 120 km per hour. Construction of the lighthouse was completed in 1908. An interesting detail - the lighthouse was the most modern at the time the light equipment, flashes were visible at a distance of 40 km.
In the early 2000s, close to the old building of the lighthouse was installed new tower, solar-powered. However, in 2006 during a powerful typhoon "Milenio" modern lighthouse collapsed, submerging for the first century of the coast into darkness. Unfortunately, the old lighthouse and the building fell into disrepair and has long been in poor condition.
