Park Mercatelli Salerno was officially opened in February 1998, in the presence of Oscar Luigi Scalfaro, then President of the Italian Republic. Spread over an area of 10 hectares is one of the largest urban parks in Italy in relation to the number of urban population. It combines three zones - Marikonda, Mercatelli Kvartere and Europe.

A characteristic feature of the park are small rivers that flow through its territory, greenhouses, where you can admire cacti, donated Salerno Foundation Acquaviva, rock gardens, artificial lake and canal. The huge space is reserved for performances outdoors.

Particular attention should be paid to the aforementioned collection of cacti collected by the famous family of Acquaviva and now in the public domain residents .  It is for that place and to provide for everyone to see this collection, the municipality of Salerno, and decided to build the park Mercatelli conservatory - a great place from an aesthetic standpoint and this artificially created ecosystem .  Six months it has taken to prepare the ground, plant cactus, provide them with care, and so antiparasitic . d .  Today, the collection housed in the conservatory and around it, you can see a very rare plant species - agave, euphorbia, Jade, echinococcus and Echinocereus .  And do greenhouses are among the few of its kind in southern Italy - a wonderful place for botanists and nature lovers, a famous tourist destination and a true oasis of relaxation for the inhabitants of Salerno .
