One of the important attractions in Ribe is the church of St. Catherine and the former abbey. The founders of the monastery of St. Catherine are the Dominican monks. In 1228, near the city walls in the swampy area it began construction of the church. The church was consecrated in honor of St. Catherine of Siena, which was recognized as one of the few women - Doctors of the Church. On the square in front of the monastery and the church placed a beautiful statue of St. Catherine.

Church of St. Catherine, which has been preserved to our time, has been expanded and rebuilt in the XIV century, the monastery also added two rooms for monks. In the XV century in the city of Ribe, there were about ten churches of different religious orders, monasteries, almshouses, hospitals, shelters and finds them at school. After the Reformation, the city has only one monastery to the church and the cathedral. Abbey remained in force, as there was housed a hospital, and the church became a Protestant parish.

The interior of the church rather modest: simple whitewashed walls, simple wooden benches, exactly lined up in rows. It is necessary to highlight the beautiful gilded altarpiece, the pulpit in the Renaissance style, and several tombstones. In the church there is a large body. Inside the monastery there is a small courtyard surrounded by an arched gallery.

Every year, the temple of Saint Catherine visited by many tourists from all over the world.
