Sea Church (second name - the Church of Our Lady of the Sea) was built in the XIX century on the hill of St. Polycarp in Pula. Construction of the church began in 1891 and ended in 1898. The church was built in a mixture of styles, but it is dominated by features of neo-romanticism.

During the construction of the architects Friedrich von Schmidt, Tomasz Natal, Victor Lantz relied on their experience and preferences. Victor Lantz was from near Trento, and in 1890 was working in Pula on a project building of the State German Gymnasium (now here is the Archaeological Museum), as well as building the church of St. Agnes in Medulin.

Sea church was built of alternating rows of white stone mined in Brijuni, and pink marble that was mined in quarries Oprtalj. Exterior finish of the Church makes the delight of many, but it is not inferior and interior of the church.

Near the church installed a 28-meter tower, built by the architect Tommasizha. The top of the tower is flat and it is a bronze statue of an angel with outstretched wings - Wizard Rafaetty of Trento. The bell tower has 5 bells.

At the consecration ceremony he was invited by the Emperor Franz Joseph, who financed the construction of the church. It is known that the construction of the Church of the emperor very expensive cost.
