Natural Science Museum is the largest museum in the city of Plovdiv and the second largest in Bulgaria. The idea of creating the complex was approved by the city authorities in 1952. However, it took several years to gather a rich collection and arrange exhibition space.
September 5, 1955 was the opening of a temporary exhibition of materials of the future natural science museum, which was a great success - it was visited by tens of thousands of residents and guests of Plovdiv.
The first complete exposition opened May 8, 1960. It was dedicated to the geology, flora and fauna of Bulgaria and consisted of several sections: "The evolution of organisms and inanimate nature", "plants", "Invertebrates", "vertebrates - fish, amphibians, reptiles, birds and mammals." This exhibition marked the beginning of the future development of the museum.
