Xcaret (translated from the Mayan language - "little bay") - is a unique and most popular national park in Mexico, on the Caribbean coast of the country. It is located on the federal highway Cancun-Chetumal near the town of Playa del Carmen, Quintana Roo.
In 1984, architect Miguel Quintana Pali bought a plot of land in the Riviera Maya, where he wanted to build his own house. However, preparing the ground, I stumbled upon a funnel cenotes (dips formed by falling in the vaults of limestone caves) and underground rivers.
Pali with his friends decided to open a park. So, in place of one of the Mayan ceremonial centers emerged Xcaret. This eco-archaeological park with monuments of ancient culture, the tropical nature and the animals that live almost in the wild, beautiful beaches and vibrant evening performance artists on the theme of the history of Mexico, which involved about 200 people. The most dangerous species of animals, such as jaguars and pumas, are protected by a deep moat and a small stone wall.
Here you can swim on the underground river, visit the aquarium, turtle farm, butterfly park and for a fee to swim with dolphins, riding a stroll along the beach or snorkel and mask. Therefore it is better to come here for the whole day. View Park can be traveling on the water road, encountering along the way the real Indian village.
The "Fine Arts" - the most popular in Mexico shows held in Xcaret. This entertaining production about the life of Mexico before and after the Spanish capture.
Seasoned travelers would recommend definitely taking a photo, a video camera, sunglasses and sunscreen, bathing suit, shoes, which can be long and hard to walk. In the park with the city relatively high prices for food and drinks, but it is possible to take care in advance, taking food with them.
