Palais de Chaillot is relatively young - it was built in 1937 next to the Paris World Exhibition. Built on the site of the former Trocadero Palace, which also held the World Exhibition, but in 1878. And if the Trocadero, with its Moorish-Byzantine style symbolized the century XIX, the neoclassical, constructivist style Chaillot already reflected the harsh winnowing century XX.
His name was the palace for the title of the hill on the banks of the Seine, on which it stands. This is a very advantageous place: from the square in front of Chaillot an incredible view of the Eiffel Tower. No less beautiful view of the palace opens to the height of the lookout tower. From this we can estimate the enormity of Chaillot, purity and majesty of its lines.
Initially Chaillot was not planned as follows: expected to give a more modern look Trocadero. But the architects Carl Boileau and Azema proposed to demolish the main hall and the tower of the former palace to reveal the future, leading to the Eiffel Tower. The emerging space was turned into a square with alleys and fountains - its giant arches span two symmetrical wings of the palace. Right in the hill is the National Theatre of Chaillot (a century later it will give a concert Vladimir Vysotsky).
The building is richly decorated with sculptures in the classical style. In the evenings, it is very beautifully illuminated.
At the Palais de Chaillot are several museums. French monumental art museum where you can see the overview of French architecture from the XII century to the present day. The National Maritime museum displays a variety of models of ships, navigation tools, original items of marine life, from the XVII century. The museum tells the story of human origin of mankind, there are exhibited rare archaeological finds.
At the foot of Chaillot, on the site of former quarries, it is a public aquarium CineAqua - a powerful magnet for children. He is among the ten most modern aquarium in the world. Here are regularly arranged underwater view. Visitors can walk through the underwater corridors, being surrounded by sea creatures.
