   Photo: Flea Market

A few years ago flea market on the street Rozier, which is near the metro Porte de Clignancourt, was granted the status of national treasure. This shows how serious the Parisians are marchés aux puces (flea markets), to carry out its share of the work to clean up the city from the old stuff.

Flea markets in Paris, there are already more than a century. The collection and resale of second-hand items - business as old as the world. In 1880, Parisians were thrown up to 75 tons of junk in the year, all this stuff has not had time to disassemble the whole army of rag pickers.

Then the prefect of the capital Pubel ordered to put on the streets of metal boxes. So there litter bins, which is still called by the name of the prefect - poubelle. A starёvschiki were forced to concentrate on specific markets outside the city, which was then passed relatively close to the center.

These flea markets are called. The only officially sanctioned flea market in the center of the city until 1955 was a small market on the Place Saint-Médard on the Rue Mouffetard. But he could not withstand the competition with huge market for used items, the largest of which was the flea market on the street Rozier.

It was founded in the late XIX century and is one of the largest in Europe. There are several thousands of sellers holding market places in the conglomerate of fifteen small markets with different names and different directions: from antique furniture to clothes and electronics. Galleries market stretched for several kilometers. Here you can find not only the trash but also completely new clothes and furniture, books and African statues. And it may well be near the bookcase from an old French castle.

Every week, this market is visited by over one hundred thousand customers. Rush Hour begins in the afternoon, so better to come here in the morning. On a flea market to bargain assumed. Many shops accept credit cards. And finally, going here, better purse safely hide in an inner pocket - just like in the old days, there actively foraged Parisian pickpockets.
