Museum of Slavonia was established in 1877. Thanks to the diversity and richness of the materials Museum for decades kept the status of a major national museum in Croatia. The museum was about 400 thousand objects, grouped in 100 collections.
Today the museum has nine sections: archeology, natural history, numismatics, history, arts and crafts, ethnography, technical department, workshops, as well as administrative-office department. The museum has constantly held various cultural events, the collection is constantly updated, organized exhibitions, conducted scientific work, publishing, etc.
The museum collects and stores the materials related to the cultural and historical heritage of the city of Osijek and Slavonia and Baranja. In addition, the museum acts as a cultural institution of Osijek. Through the activities of the Museum of Cultural and Heritage of Osijek known outside of Croatia.
Since 1946, the museum is housed in the Old Town Hall. Here are the objects of Roman, Illyrian and Greek culture. One of the most extensive sections devoted to the city of Murcia, here are exhibited statues, a collection of coins, fragments of architecture, etc.
