American Museum of Natural History - one of the largest and most famous museums in the world. The enormous complex of twenty-seven interconnected buildings lies across the street from Central Park. Inspect it for one day and try to have nothing: here 32 million exhibits.

The museum was founded in 1869 by the efforts of celebrities, including Theodore Roosevelt, Sr. (father of President Theodore Roosevelt and his grandfather first lady Eleanor Roosevelt), banker and philanthropist Morris Jesup (funded Arctic expedition of Robert Peary), billionaire and philanthropist John Pierpont Morgan. The largest building with corner towers built in the Neo-Romanesque style by architect Josiah Cleveland Cady. The walls are pink-brown granite stretch along 77th Street for 210 meters, the height of the corner towers - 46 meters.

Initially, the collection consisted mainly of stuffed animals and skeletons. The museum was not rich, and almost suffered a financial collapse. The situation was saved philanthropist Morris Jesup, the elected president of the museum. When it then began a golden age: a quarter of a century, the exhibition area has increased eleven times, endowment fund exceeded one million dollars. Scientific work unfolded, the museum sent expeditions to all corners of the continent. In 1902, it is this expedition discovered the remains of a previously unknown to science Tyrannosaurus rex.

The museum is divided into several themed rooms, each of which is impressive in size and saturation .  Rooms dinosaurs possess the world's largest collection of fossils: it exhibited genuine skeletons of Tyrannosaurus rex and brontosaurus famous .  The hall "Ocean Life" under the ceiling hung a model of a blue whale in full size (19 meters) .  In the hall you can admire the dioramas Ackley expanses of Africa with animals, differing only from living immobility .  This effect has achieved outstanding taxidermist Carl Akeley: contrary to international experience, he refused to pack hides the chips and painstakingly recreated in each stuffed skeleton, muscles, blood vessels .  The Arthur Ross Hall meteorites can see the world's largest meteorite weighing 34 tons, found in Greenland .  Hall Harry Frank Guggenheim minerals represents hundreds of unusual geological samples, including emerald "Patricia" (632 carats), sapphire "Star of India" (563 carats) .

Impressive is the Center for Earth and Space - it is located in a giant transparent cube, which hover illuminated sphere. Here is the Hayden Planetarium with equipment of high resolution allows you to make an exciting "journey" in the depths of space. Inside the main scope is "Space Road" - a track length of 110 meters, during which visitors get acquainted with the history of the universe. One step on this road is 84 million years of evolution of the world. Here you can see near the cluster of stars, spiral galaxies, the Milky Way. From the moment of extinction of the dinosaurs until the end of the road - about half a meter. The life of humanity on this scale takes a cut in the thickness of the hair.
