Bomb Shelter "Andersgrotta" is located in Kirkenes. Construction began in 1941, air-raid shelters. Norwegian architect Anders Elvebah in whose name later given shelter and received. For a wide access of visitors it opened in 1990.

After the occupation began in 1940. at the turn of the North were concentrated large forces of German troops. This region is considered the most fortified in Europe, in connection with which the city has been made more than 300 air raids. By the number of bombings in Europe during the Second World War Kirkenes takes 2nd after Malta. Air raid here declared 1015 times. After such attacks in Kirkenes survived only 230 houses. In October of 1944. German troops burned the city most of the remaining homes.
