In the northern suburbs of Mumbai is a wonderful National Park named Sanjay Gandhi earlier, before the acquisition of India's independence, known as the Krishnagiri. In 1974 he received the title of Borivali, and in 1981 was renamed in honor of the deceased son of Indira Gandhi Sanjay.
The park is located on the hills surrounding the city. At its center are the famous Kanheri Caves - a place of pilgrimage for Buddhists, created in the I century. Also at the park, there are two beautiful lakes Vihar and Tulsi.
The park is a lush forest, which grows a large variety of plants, a total of about 1000 species. Especially picturesque terrain becomes during flowering Carvey - beautiful plant that blooms once every 8-10 years. Last time this happened in 2008, and the next flowering period is expected only in 2016.
Among this lush vegetation can meet several species of deer including Axis and muntjac, rhesus monkeys, porcupines, Asian Palm Civet, temnosheih (Indian) hares, Sambar, leopards, hyenas, antelopes chetyrehrogih, Indian chevrotains, crocodiles and monitor lizards. During a visit to the reserve must be very careful, as usual on its territory a large number of snakes, including poisonous, such as found only in India, bamboo keffiyeh, chained adder and boiga Ceylon.
Earlier in the park we lived and Bengal tigers, but, unfortunately, at the moment there is no official confirmation of this fact, although their tracks sometimes found. But the management of the reserve determination to change this situation and get to the park the status of habitats of these endangered animals.
National Park Sanjay Gandhi's name is one of the most popular parks in Asia. Most tourists are attracted by the opportunity to participate in the famous lion safari and watch these animals with a fairly close range. In general, the park is visited by about one year 2 million tourists.
