Lazaro Galdiano Museum is one of the most popular attractions in Madrid. The museum is housed in the palace, which was built in the Italian style in the early 20th century and in the possession of the former publisher Jose Lazaro Galdiano. He also belonged to the collection of antique church utensils, cups of gold and silver, medieval enamels and other art objects. All this collection, numbering about 13 thousand samples, Galdiano before his death in 1947 bequeathed to the Government of Spain, and in his home January 17, 1951 opened a museum named after him.
Today, the museum opens up the door 37 rooms, which houses the exposition presented with antiques, old household items, weapons, ornaments, sculptures, paintings.
The upper floor of the mansion occupies a room, which exhibited a rich collection of ancient daggers and swords, a rare collection of royal seals, crystal and jewelery.
The most valuable of the museum is a unique collection of paintings belonging to different schools of painting. There is a hall dedicated to the Spanish artist, where you can see works by El Greco, Velazquez, Zurbaran, Muriyo and others. Of particular interest to visitors is always a collection of works by Francisco Goya. There is a hall with works by British artists Gainsborough, Reynolds and Constable. Visitors also have the opportunity to get acquainted with works by Italian and Flemish paintings.
On a variety of exposures and content Lazaro Galdiano Museum is not inferior to famous museums such as the Prado and Reina Sofia Art Centre, but, unlike the latter, there is an atmosphere of comfort, calm and a measured silence.
