National Park "Apuan Alps" is located a few kilometers from the famous resort area Versilia in Tuscany, Italy. Its highest peak - Mount Monte Pisanino - reaches 1947 m.

Apuan Alps are very different from the nearby Apennines in structure - here there are deep river valleys with very impressive steep slopes. Apuan also famous for its beautiful marbles, deep canyons and underground failures. Karst systems of these mountains is the largest in Italy and one of the biggest in the world. For example, an underground maze of Antro del Cork has a length of over 70 kilometers and approximately 1200 meters difference in altitude drop.

Geographical location of the massif, its exposure and the different nature of its constituent rocks define a variety of ecosystems of the park. Apuan Alps - is one of the most unusual mountain areas in Italy, remarkable for its landscapes. The seaward foot of the mountains covered with Mediterranean maquis shrubs, found above the oak groves and mixed forest with a predominance of hornbeam and chestnut trees, and at an altitude of 1000 m above sea level grows a beech. Alpine meadows and limestone cliffs are home to plants, is very interesting from a geobotanical point of view.

The fauna of the Apuan Alps is represented by large mammals, among which there are bears, wolves, lynx, deer, as well as herbivores - mouflon and mountain goats. In the deep caves inhabited by bats - bats. Special mention deserve the birds - krasnoklyuvaya alpine chough, which became a symbol of the park and is found only a few tops, golden eagle nesting in the northern part of the Apuan, red partridge, swallow, Alpine Accentor - just a few of the local representatives of the kingdom of birds.

The man began to settle in the Apuan Alps in prehistoric times, leaving behind numerous monuments of history and culture. Today, thousands of tourists annually visit the National Park, passing through the specially equipped trails and stopping in various campsites. All of them imply here the nature and amazing sights. Among the latter can be called underground maze Antro del Cork, caves Marmitte dei Gigante near Valle degli Arlberg, the mountain Monte phorate, from the top of which offers a breathtaking view, marble caves in the vicinity of the famous town of Carrara, and not far from villages Weight, Seravezza, Stazzema et al., and "bird sanctuary" from the visitor center, hiking trails and observation points for bird enthusiasts.
