Gruber Palace, which now houses the National Archives of Slovenia, was built in 1773-1781 gg. designed by the Jesuit Gabriel Gruber. This palace, which was an astronomical observatory was built for the School of Mechanics and Hydraulics Gruber.
The palace was built in the late Baroque style. For decoration of its facade and interior plaster in floral style, were involved experienced plasterers. Leaving the dome oval staircase inside the palace, it is to look at it.
On the ground floor there is a chapel, painted with scenes from the life of the Virgin Mary. The painting, dated 1777, is the work of Austrian artist Martin Johann Schmidt, also known as Kremser Schmidt. Lightly shaded, metaphorical paintings on the dome ceiling above the staircase, depicting trade, arts and crafts techniques, were created by the artist Andrew Ljubljana Janez Harlaynom in 1786.
