Soomaa National Park is located in southwestern Estonia. Soomaa means "land of bogs". The park was established in 1993 to protect wetlands, flowering meadows, forests and rivers. The area of ​​the National Park is 390 square kilometers Soomaa, it is the second largest after Laahemaa.

Most of the park is covered by wetland complexes that are sometimes replaced by tributaries of the Pärnu River. In Soomaa it is the largest of the territory occupied by the marsh - Kuresoo or "Crane Marsh", which is really a lot of these birds. The cases in the form of total flooding are extremely rare, so have found their home here, many representatives of the animal world. It bears, wild boars, lynxes, deer, elk, wolves and beavers. Among the rare species of birds, which can be found in marshes, golden eagle, capercaillie, black grouse, black stork. Total contains about 160 species of birds. Great value National Park are small ponds right round, occurring in swamps. These ponds filled with cold water and frequent, with a diameter of no more than 2 meters, you can swim in them.

In 1997, the park Soomaa included in the Ramsar List. In 1998 Soomaa was nominated for inscription on UNESCO's list of World Natural Heritage.
