The famous Greek island of Rhodes attracts many tourists not only for the magnificent natural landscapes, but also interesting cultural and historical sights.

Vacation in Rhodes, you should definitely visit the Jewish Museum. It is located in the capital of the island of the same name in the old Jewish quarter in the rooms, which are part of Kahal Shalom Synagogue (the oldest synagogue in Greece, built in 1577, and the only one in Rhodes).

The Jewish Museum of Rhodes was founded in 1997 by Aaron Hasan in order to preserve and promote the history and culture of the Jews of Rhodes, with its roots in the II century BC Initially, the museum was equipped with two rooms formerly used as prayer rooms for women. The exhibition features photographs, important historical documents, costumes, household items and much more. Here you can see the marriage contracts, Jewish theological books, as well as the Turkish travel document that was issued in 1910 by Sultan Mehmet Resat power of 20-year-old Isaac Nessim Ben Venistu (document allowed to leave with his family in another country). On the stands of the museum you will find a huge number of pictures illustrating the life of the Jewish community on the island in different historical periods.

Thanks to Aaron Hassan and he founded the Jewish Historical Foundation over time the museum's collection has expanded considerably. It collected a huge number of unique relics from all over the world. In 2004, the museum was closed for renovation. It was held not only the planned overhaul, but also a significant increase in exhibition space. The two already existing halls were added four more rooms, allowing thoroughly and to broaden exposure for everyone to see a huge number of new exhibits.
