Powder Tower is a historic landmark and the glorious city of Lviv is on the street Basement. The tower was built in 1554-1556 gg. It is a monument of military defensive architecture of the Renaissance.

Powder Tower - one of the latest powerful and compelling urban defensive towers, has been preserved in the old town to the present day. The tower was located on the earthworks of defensive structures and municipal deep ditch with water and guarded the approaches to the city on the east side of the detractors. The material for the construction of the facility served as the rough stones from the demolished old urban arsenal. It was virtually impenetrable protective structures, since the thickness of its walls was 2, 5-3 m., In which all sides were equipped loopholes.

The tower was also used as a store for gunpowder, ammunition, weapons, and in the days of peace it was stored grain. When Galicia was part of Austria-Hungary, there were barracks, and later artillery workshops. For four centuries, the Powder Tower around the ground level has risen by nearly two meters, hiding her bottom.

In 1954, the Powder Tower was restored. In 1959, in front of the building were located the sleeping lions figures of the nineteenth century. In the same year the tower passed the House of Lviv architect. In 1973 restoration was carried out, after which the Powder Tower acquired its modern look. Today, on the first floor of the tower is a cozy restaurant and a shop where you can buy various souvenirs.
