Museum of books and literature is the oldest of all the museums in Germany similar trends. It was founded in Leipzig in 1885. The basis of this unique cultural and educational place was put a collection of well-known German publisher and bibliophile Terminal.

This museum in 1950 became one of the departments of the East German libraries, so it was the beginning of future unification and expansion. In 1990, when it signed an agreement on the reunification of Germany, the library was connected with the West, is located in Frankfurt.
