Medler-passage is a famous shopping mall in Leipzig, located in the center of the old town. He became known throughout the world thanks to the efforts of businessmen Anton muddler and Heinrich Stromer.
The beginning of the history of the places of interest can be considered as 1525, when the rector of the University of Leipzig Auerbach decided to open a wine bar. After 5 years, he built a new building, which has become an exhibition hall Auerbach-Hof. Despite the fact that it has been for centuries, the cellars and vaults of buildings remain unchanged and are used as a wine bar.
By the 100th anniversary of the building was opened an exhibition hall. In 1911, the proprietor of the building was Anton Medler, who had his own plans for the construction of this place. But after numerous requests and reports of preserving wine cellars Auerbach Medler not only touched the part of the building, but was able to expand the cellars, inscribing them in the new building.
Expansion and restructuring of the passage lasted until 1914, it was used as an exhibition hall, where the audience was presented with wine, leather goods, and porcelain. Entrance to the 5-storey building with an area of 8000 square meters, is decorated with semi-circular arch with two female statues holding a vase and grapes. Roof passage is made of glass, its central portion takes the glass rotunda, in one of its arches suspended bells made of Meissen porcelain. Every hour they play a variety of folk and classical melodies.
In 1997 the building was reconstructed, there is now the offices, but most of the area is occupied still boutiques and various shopping pavilions that attract many tourists.
