Botanical Garden of the University of Leipzig is one of the oldest not only in Germany but also throughout Europe. It is on a par with gardens located in Florence and Padua. The beginning of the existence of the Botanical Garden of Leipzig is considered the first half of the XVI century. In 1542, then a garden of medicinal plants, which was located in the Dominican monastery of St. Paul, passed the university. Over the next four years, he had to move four times, replacing one city to another, but in 1876 the botanical garden found its permanent home in Leipzig.
