In the old town of Kotor is a lot of old palaces of the local nobility, which are monuments of medieval architecture. One of these monuments is the palace of Byzantium, which is next to the prince's palace. The main facade of the building overlooks the Place d'Armes, the rear facade facing the street leading to the Cathedral Square and flour.

Palace of Byzantium was built in the 14th century and belonged to the famous family of Byzantium, lived in this palace for centuries. Among the family members were Bizant outstanding poets, priests, sailors, teachers.

His initial appearance Palace lost after several devastating earthquakes. And each time after the destruction of the palace Byzantium was reduced, while that something is changing, both in front of the building, and inside, something added, dostraivalos. So clearly define the architecture of the building is simply impossible. The frame of the building has been preserved to date, it refers to 1641.

The building was badly damaged during the terrible earthquake in 1667, after which the owner Nicola Byzantium, restoring the ruined palace, has attached to the building of the north wing and engraved on the facade of family coat of arms with the image of a lion in a jump, as well as their initials and the date.

Currently, the palace consists of two wings with an internal courtyard open inside courtyard staircase leading to the floors - this composition is typical for the style of the Renaissance. Sami stairs, windows, doors, and the well inside the courtyard, richly decorated and adorned with family coat of arms and crown, can be attributed to the style of the Baroque.
