On the square of St. Tryphon is another building with outstanding architecture, historic, cultural and artistic value - a palace Drago.
Drago Palace was built in the XII century and belonged to a noble family Drago. Drago family prospered from XIII to XVIII century, it came from a lot of prominent figures, distinguished themselves in the arts, culture, economic and political life of the city of Kotor.
The two wings of the building - north and south, belong to different architectural styles. The south wing of the palace was completely destroyed by an earthquake in 1667, it was rebuilt almost from scratch in the Baroque style, using some of the surviving parts of the old building. Thus, on the second floor of the south wing there was the balcony door with a gothic gable. The north wing was built in the marked Gothic style. Two- and tricuspid window on the second floor of the north wing (bifory and triforiya) repeatedly coat of arms of the family Drago - dragon on a gold field, raised cymbals - decorative niches above the windows and other decorative elements are gothic XIV-XV centuries .. Impressive their architecture archway beneath the palace from the street to the inside stairs. It is made in pure Gothic style and decorated with floral patterns, again, family crest, heads of angels.
By surviving drawings was possible, restored the interior of the palace. Special attention should be interesting helical arrangement of wooden beams on the ceiling in the great hall of the palace.
Currently, the palace Drago is the Institute of protection of cultural monuments.
