Temple Chaturbui

Located near a small but world-famous village of Khajuraho, the temple Chaturbui was built in honor of the Hindu god Vishnu. This ancient temple, which, according to scientists, was established around 1100, is also known as Dzhatakari - the name of the village, which is situated. The word "Chaturbui" in Sanskrit means "the one with four hands" (referring to Vishnu, who has 4 hands).

Chaturbui Temple is located three kilometers south of Khajuraho therefore belongs to the southern group of the famous temple complex of the city. Remarkably, Chaturbui is the only building of the complex, completely devoid of any sculptures and images of erotic and tantric character. But that does not prevent him from being as popular as the other temples of Khajuraho.

The temple stands on a high stone platform, and as it is necessary to buildings of this type, consists of several parts: mandapa - a long outer pavilion, corridor, decorated with a colonnade, as well as a large hall, which houses the largest sanctuary of the temple - a statue of the four-Vishnu, which is carved from stone and has a height of more than 2, 5 meters. The two left hands are idol lotus and sink, upper right arm folded in a gesture that expresses fearlessness, while the bottom - in a gesture of blessing. But, unfortunately, some time ago the lower arm was broken off. In addition, in the hall there are other statues of Vishnu depicting its various entities, such as the statue of his avatar Narsimhi - polucheloveka-polulva.

The interior walls are covered with exquisitely carved Chaturbui lions, gods and demigods of Indian mythology.
