Kronotsky Biosphere Reserve is the largest and most famous nature reserve in Kamchatka. In the reserve are almost all landscapes of the peninsula: shrub and forested midlands, lowland and coastal tundra, of course, volcanic highlands with glaciers.
State Natural Reserve was established on the site of a pre-existing here "sable reserve" in Kronoki. In 1951 it was liquidated, and after - restored. In 1961, the reserve was liquidated again. The final recovery in its former borders took place in January 1967
In 1985, the reserve was a part of the international network of biosphere reserves, and since 1996, he is on the list of World Natural Heritage Site "Volcanoes of Kamchatka". The main objective of the reserve was to restore the number of valuable fur-bearing animal - sable.
Within the reserve there are many unique natural sites. Here you can see the amazing Valley of Geysers and Death Valley caldera Uzon, Semyachiksky estuary, Kronotsky lake and larch forest, a grove of fir graceful Schapinskie spruce, Tyushevskii Chazhminskie and hot springs, hot springs Semyachikskie, Semyachiksky estuary and the glaciers of the Kronotsky Peninsula.
Kronotsky Biosphere Reserve - is the habitat of 54 species of mammals, including endangered species of marine animals - sea otter and sea lion. Not far from Cape Kozlova is the only off the coast of the peninsula rookery of sea lions (the population has 400 individuals). On the territory of the Kronotsky Nature Reserve is home to the world's largest natural population of brown bear and reindeer. In addition, there are a large number of fox, sable and otter.
In the Kronotsky Biosphere Reserve can be found a stone birch groves, thickets of alder and cedar, beautiful pine forests of larch.
