Falaknuma Palace was built in 1884 by order of the Nawab-ul-Ulmara, who at the time was the Prime Minister of Hyderabad. Construction lasted for 9 years and cost Nawab-ul-Ulmaru a fortune, so on the advice of his wife - Lady Vikar-ul Umrah - he passes it in 1897 in the ownership of Nizam VI Mehbobu Ali Pasha, who made this place a kind of a visitor's center for senior officials , royals and honorary foreign delegations. But after leaving the Nizam of Hyderabad, the palace is almost unused.

Located in the old town, the building with the adjacent territory covers an area of about 13 hectares. The architecture of the palace embodies two styles - the Italian Renaissance and the Tudor style and in shape the building resembles a scorpion. Finish the palace made entirely of Italian white marble, decorated with stained glass windows, rooms replete with columns, arches, carved friezes and frescoes, and the top tier Falaknuma strewn with elegant turrets under the domes. Number of rooms of the palace up to 220, and besides them there are 22 large halls.

Translated from Urdu "falaknuma" means "mirror of the sky", and this name is no accident. Dazzling white palace with lots of decorative details looks light and airy as clouds.

Since 2000, the palace was carried Falaknuma restoration, and in 2010 he became one of the upscale hotels of the Taj Hotels and Resorts. The owners decided not to make any significant changes in the architectural ensemble of any interior. Therefore, all the originality and grandeur of "The Mirror of the Sky" were saved. Although it was purchased new furniture, adding some decorations, including expensive paintings and handmade luxurious tapestries, but still remained Falaknum cultural and historical monuments, as well as an architectural masterpiece.
