The opening ceremony of the museum took place on November 18, 1887 The project was carried out by Professor Carl Gustav Estlanderom who saw "House of Art" as a creative unity of the arts and crafts under one roof - an idea that was received Finnish artists without much enthusiasm. Now it shows the most significant collection of Finnish art from the mid-1700s. to modernism of the 1950s.
