Gothenburg Opera building is relatively new: its construction began in September 1989 and was completed fairly quickly, largely due to the large budget (more than 6000 contributors). The official opening of the opera took place in 1994.

The Göteborg Opera is a theater with superb facilities, made in a classic style and a unique technical equipment. This is a fairly large building 160 meters long and 85 meters wide with a total area of ​​28 700 square meters. Only one area of ​​the main stage - 500 square meters, and it is equipped with four movable platforms, each of which can support the weight up to 15 tons, and furthermore, can be lowered down to 7 m. Architect Ian Izkovits in the construction of the building took as a basis the principle of lightness and ease.
