Church of Santissima Annunziata Gaeta was built in the first half of the 14th century in the Gothic style, which was later changed. Today, it is an excellent example of Baroque architecture.

In 1321, the year of Gaeta, Bishop Francesco Bruno announced his intention to build a hospital in the city with an adjoining church. The construction lasted for a long time, and only in 1354, the year the new church was consecrated in honor of the Annunciation of the Blessed Virgin Mary - Santissima Annunziata. A year later and the hospital opened.

In the 16th century the church was decorated with sumptuous polyptych work of Andrea Sabatini, given her wealthy residents Gaeta Giuliano Cologna .  In the same period, the so-called golden chapel, located on the side of the apse, the first picture .  In 1619, the year began the first reconstruction of the church, which resulted in the building got its present Baroque appearance .  The author of the project was the Neapolitan architect Andrea Lazzari who made the facade .  His son Jacopo worked on the chapel of Santissima Sacramento, and nephew - over the interior of the church .  In 1686, the year of Giuseppe De Martino made body established by now in the right choir .  Another organ was purchased from the Cathedral .  Also in the 17th century were made wooden choir and two side altars .  But the main altar in the church came only in the 19th century .  In the 20th century Santissima Annutsiata had a difficult fate, mainly because of the two world wars .  Fortunately, all the works of art decorating the church, including the old body managed to keep to the present day . 

The elegant façade of the church - the creation of Andrea Lazzari - faces the small area that connects Via del Annunziata Giovanni Caboto and promenade. With large eaves is divided into three parts. In the first section of the portal is located in the second - a huge window, and the third - a small tower with a clock with a ceramic lining. In the first and second sections are visible on the sides of the niche in which were to be placed statues of saints, but which have not been made. Right facade of the church, facing toward the waterfront, has recently been renovated. On the left side of the facade is the ancient portal in the Gothic style. Probably so was the original main portal of the church until the first reconstruction.

Inside Santissima Annunziata consists of a central nave divided into four bays, with cross vaults. In the first flight, you can see two basons of colored marble, large coat of arms Gaeta under the window, a crucifix in an alcove on the left wall and the two confessionals. Second span with side altars decorated with paintings by Luca Giordano. Special attention is given amazing chapel of Santissima Sacramento, which vaults painted by Andrea Skaputstsi.
