Museum of Education in Gabrovo opened in 1973 and is engaged in the search, collection, storage and study of written and material monuments of Bulgarian education. Also, the museum staff are keen to show the country's development from its origins to the present day. The museum exposition is located in five halls, which are divided thematically: from the Bulgarian education in the IX century and ending with the present. The total area of the museum - 435 sq.m.
The first hall introduces the history of Bulgarian education, the first written evidence shows that began to appear in the IX century. It was connected with the fact that in 886 by Prince Boris were warmly received three students Cyril and Methodius - Naum, Angelary and Clement. Prince has created favorable conditions for them in which they can freely engage in literary and educational activities. The exposition of the first hall is completed in 1835 in the second room is devoted to the development of Bulgarian education during the period of the National Revival - from 1835 to 1878. It is known that in August 1835 in Gabrovo Neophyte Rilski opened the first secular school.
The third and fourth halls of the museum covers the history of education in the country since the era of the Bulgarian school of liberation from the Turkish yoke and the end of the XX century. In the fifth room contains reconstructed classrooms from each school from different eras.
In the museum, among other things, stores a collection of books from the personal library of V. Aprilov, from different periods - from the Renaissance to the present day. The museum also organized a special library, which has more than 28,000 volumes. The museum fund comprises more than 60 thousand archival units.
