The cathedral, dedicated to St. Bartholomew and the Emperor Charlemagne, was founded in the IX century. This Gothic church aisles with high carved tower of sandstone laid in the second half of the XIII century on the site of the old church building.

Here the German emperors were elected by the laws of the Golden Bull, here is their crowning in the years 1562-1792. It preserves masterpieces of Gothic period, such as the altar of "Sleeping Maria" XV century. The gallery remained true bench of the XIV century and the middle of the magnificent frescoes of the XV century with scenes from the life of St. Bartholomew.

If you climb the 328 steps to the top, you can admire the panorama of the city from a height of 75 meters. Like most sites in Frankfurt, there has been an extensive restoration works in 1994 to the 1200 anniversary of the city.
