Snake Island - a natural landmark of Bulgaria, located in the resort Duni. The island is located in the sea, 15 kilometers south of the town of Sozopol, north of the mouth of the river Ropotamo. Its area - about 0, 3 hectares.

The official name of the island - the island of St. Thomas. However, the people he was called Serpent because of the fact that these places are home to several species of snakes. In addition they can be seen on the island of Gunther voles, rodents and other wildlife.

In the 20s of the last century came here nerd Bures, who was planning to create their own collection of cacti. Soil Snake Island proved to be suitable for this kind of plant. Cacti, once brought back a botanist from the Botanical Garden in Bratislava, has successfully taken root in these places - they now occupy almost half of the island. The most picturesque is time begins in June, when numerous wild cacti begin to bloom large yellow flowers. Ripe fruits are edible size of a plum and smell like strawberries. Thanks to an interesting flora in 1962 Snake Island was officially given the status of a nature reserve.

On the island there is a small half-ruined church of the Middle Ages, it is a cultural monument.

Due to the existing legends of buried treasure on the Snake Island here every year comes a lot of hunters.
