Iversky Virgin Svyatoozersky Monastery is Orthodox Monastery of the Russian Church. It was founded by Patriarch Nikon. Located 10 km from the town of Valdai, which is in the Novgorod region.

In 1652 July 25 Nikon ascended the patriarchal throne and told Alexei Mikhailovich that intends to found a monastery on Lake Valdai. Alexis has approved plans for the Patriarch, and the Treasury has been allocated funds for the intended circuit of the monastery.

In 1653, construction began in the summer, and by the autumn have been built and are ready for the consecration of the two churches built of wood. In honor of the Iberian Icon of the cathedral church was consecrated and warm consecrated in honor of St. Philip of Moscow. Patriarch Archimandrite Dionysios was appointed abbot of the monastery.

During the first visit the monastery under construction Patriarch decided to rename Posad Valdai in Bogorodskoye, consecrated the Valdai lake and called it Holy. In addition to the former name of the monastery it was called "the Svyatoezerskim."

Under the supervision of the Patriarch in 1653 began construction of stone monastery churches and other buildings. The newly established monastery consecrated himself Nikon. In February, 1654 by order of Nikon in the monastery relics were moved Jacob Borovichi Borovichi kept in the monastery. In 1654, in May, the Tsar had complained that the abode of reinforcing Valdai lake with islands, as well as other fiefdoms.

In 1655, the monastery moved brethren Orsha Kucein monastery. At the new location the monks moved with all their belongings, as well as a printing house. With the relocation of monks from the monastery Kucein monastery was the beginning of the development of printing and bookbinding craftsmanship.

In 1656 it completed the construction of the Assumption Cathedral. In December of the same year, namely the 16th, the cathedral was consecrated. Together with the Patriarch of the celebration came the clergy of various dioceses in Russia. The Cathedral stands out simple, generally monumental and architectural forms.

By the early 18th century, the monastery fell into disrepair. In the period from 1712 to 1730 she was with all property and land had been assigned to erect the Alexander Nevsky Lavra. Later in 1919, the monastery was converted to the Iberian labor gang, which consisted of seventy people and had a 5-hectare grounds of the monastery, as well as 200 hectares occupied by gardens, plowing, gardens and pastures.

In 1927, the monastic community was liquidated, and Iver icon was taken away in an unknown direction. Later in the territory of the monastery is a museum, shops, nursing home, created for the participants of the war, a school for children with tuberculosis.

In the last century in the 1970s on this island it was founded the village and the monastery located recreation. In the early 90s of the twentieth century is in disrepair, the monastery was transferred to the Novgorod diocese. In 1998, the Church of the Epiphany consecrated Archbishop Leo. In the Assumption Cathedral resumed service. In late 2007, work was completed on the restoration of the monastery complex.

Not so long ago, in 2008, Patriarch Alexy II, renamed the Cathedral of the Assumption in the Cathedral in honor of the Mother of God "of the Iberian". In April 2008, it was decided to gild the dome of the Cathedral of Iver. In January 2011, resulted in the restoration of fresco painting of the Assumption Cathedral, the altar and around the church up to the lower tier.
